Death of Ufology

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Wendy Connors

Ufology is in a state of self denial. For most intents and purposes it appears to be a dead issue. Why is this? Because it is practiced by few and infiltrated by the many, who fail to realize the importance of the phenomena as a scientific endeavor worthy of respect and appreciation for its unique nomenclature of a mystery needing clear explanation. Saddling the study of the phenomenon through various avenues, such as applying close-ended skepticism, debunking through ignorance or hidden agenda and expounding upon it with non- factual data and hypotheses and enlarging the scope of Ufology to include all areas of Fortean variety, cheapens the scientific quest for understanding and explanation.

Another Approach to Studying UFOs

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Roy Norris

I have been a frequent reader of this List for a number of years and have had an interest in UFO phenomena since the fifties. I have been the CEO of a major aircraft manufacturer, held a Top Secret Clearance (no, I don’t have any inside information), and have had two UFO sightings in my life. I have read widely on the subject and studied the evidence. Like many of you, I am

the route cause of this phenomenon and making that information
available to the public at large despite enormous efforts, much
of it by participants on this list.

A Die-Hard Issue: CIA’s Role in the Study of UFOs, 1947-90

Gerald K. Haines

An extraordinary 95 percent of all Americans have at least heard or read something about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), and 57 percent believe they are real. (1) Former US Presidents Carter and Reagan claim to have seen a UFO. UFOlogists–a neologism for UFO buffs–and private UFO organizations are found throughout the United States. Many are convinced that the US Government, and particularly CIA, are engaged in a massive conspiracy and coverup of the issue. The idea that CIA has secretly concealed its research into UFOs has been a major theme of UFO buffs since the modern UFO phenomena emerged in the late 1940s. (2)

This issue has become the focus of much attention today and is especially relevant to an ongoing discussion, both inside and outside Congress, regarding UFO phenomena.

The UFO Cover-Up

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Don Berliner, UFO Briefing Document

There are two major elements to the UFO mystery: the UFOs themselves and the intensive efforts by the governments of the world to withhold information about them. Neither the nature nor the purpose of the governments’ actions are clearly understood. But this policy dates back to the latter part of World War II when UFO-like "foo fighters" were being reported by combat pilots.
